Hi, my name is Frank Gallagher – yeah, no, not that Frank Gallagher – and I decided to start this blog because there’s so much amazing music going on here in the local Portland, Maine, music scene that needs to be brought forward – and I’m just the guy to do it …
Sure, there are plenty of places to find out about the bigger acts that are coming through town. We’ll leave that to the others. ThatPortlandSound.com is your source for info about what’s going on in the smaller stages around town, in Portland and beyond.
Obviously, we’re a work in progress here, but as things get rolling, you’ll find show previews and reviews, new music reviews and previews, features, interviews, observations – pithy or otherwise – and whatever other content might seem appropriate.
Heck, we might even get into some of that video we’ve been hearing so much about …
Bottom line, though: if it’s happening in or connected to the Portland, Maine music scene, odds are you’ll read about it here.
A bit about me: former journalist/editor/columnist, now working in tech. Also a musician, and my main project right now is, for lack of a better term, a little grungefolk thing called Plague Dad. Grew up in Bangor, graduated from UMaine Orono with a degree in journalism, and did a year at the Berklee College of Music before I moved to San Francisco to do some newspapering out there. Living and working in Portland now.
So, if you’re a local musician, or your band is coming through town, and you’ve got something happening — a show coming up, new music coming out, etc. — let us know. Obviously, we can’t get to everything, but we’re gonna do our best to cover as much as we can.
And thanks for reading.
