About

Your editor and publisher: Frank Gallagher

Hi, my name is Frank Gallagher – yeah, no, not that Frank Gallagher – and I decided to start this blog because there’s so much amazing music going on here in the local Portland, Maine, music scene that needs to be brought forward – and I’m just the guy to do it

Sure, there are plenty of places to find out about the bigger acts that are coming through; we’ll leave that to the others. ThatPortlandSound.com is all about what’s happening on the smaller stages around town, in Portland and in the greater Portland area.

Obviously, we’re a work in progress here, but as things get rolling, you’ll find show previews and reviews, new music reviews and previews, features, interviews, observations – pithy or otherwise – and whatever other content might seem appropriate.

Heck, we might even get into some of that video we’ve been hearing so much about …

Bottom line, though: if it’s happening in or connected to the Portland, Maine, music scene, odds are you’ll read about it here.

A bit about me: former journalist/editor/columnist. Also a musician, and my main project right now is, for lack of a better term, a little grungefolk thing called Plague Dad. Grew up in Bangor, graduated from UMaine Orono with a degree in journalism, and did a year at the Berklee College of Music before I moved to San Francisco to do some newspapering out there. Living and working in Portland now.

So, if you’re a local musician, or your band is coming through town, and you’ve got something happening — a show coming up, new music coming out, etc. — let me know. Obviously, I can’t get to everything, but I’ll do my best to cover as much as I can.

And thanks for reading.
